Bringing Tech to Our Schools

Technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity in today's fast-paced world. Yet for many of our partner schools, the idea of integrating technology into their operations felt like a distant dream—until now. Grace, one of the school directors, captured the sentiment perfectly when she said with a radiant smile and a tone filled with gratitude, “This is a blessing that has come at the right time. You’ve brought something that was so far out of reach close to us.”

Before this initiative, our partner schools were managing their information using traditional methods—pen, paper, and cumbersome files. Lost records were a common issue, and delays in submitting reports often led to missed deadlines and incomplete data, leaving school directors feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. These methods were not only time-consuming but also prone to errors and inefficiencies. Jailos, another school director, admitted, “Before when I was entering data for my school, I was just entering numbers without understanding the importance."

But things have changed. Thanks to the Rotary Club of Lusaka Central and Rotary Club of Paducah, Kentucky, we received a generous technology grant from Rotary International that enabled us to purchase laptops, tablets, and other equipment for our partner schools. To ensure the directors could make the most of this transformative opportunity, we organized a comprehensive technology training program.

The training was designed to equip directors with essential skills such as writing reports, sending emails, organizing school data, and browsing for information online. For some directors, this was their first experience using a laptop, while others had a basic understanding but needed to sharpen their skills. The sessions were practical and hands-on, helping participants understand not just how to use the technology but why it mattered.

The excitement in the room was palpable when the directors realized the training came with a laptop they could take back to their schools. Some broke into applause, others exchanged looks of disbelief, and a few even ululated in celebration. It was a moment of pure joy when the realization sunk in that their schools were entering a new era of possibilities. Jailos described the impact vividly: “You have moved us from darkness to a different world of technology where things can be done quicker and more accurately.” He added, “Now, I can appreciate the importance of information and see that my students are more than just a statistic. This will help me track my school’s progress and make better decisions for its future.”

The laptops are already making a difference. Directors are now able to store and access data more effectively, send emails to communicate with stakeholders, and explore online resources to improve their schools. What once seemed impossible is now a reality, and it’s amazing to witness how this technology will change the way these schools operate.

We are deeply grateful to the Rotary Clubs for their incredible generosity and vision in supporting this initiative. Their contribution has brought not just laptops but also empowerment, efficiency, and hope to our partner schools!

Above all, we thank God for His perfect timing and provision, making this opportunity possible. With this support and blessing, we are paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future for our schools and the children they serve.
