Chibwe, our library manager, was visiting a tailor a few streets from the Center. There he found Mr. Banda, an elderly gentleman, who was surprised to see him there.
“Young man,” he said, “I know a lot of young people in this area but I don’t know you, are you new here?”
Chibwe explained to Mr. Banda that he worked at the Center with the library, where people come to borrow books. Mr. Banda was intrigued: he had never been to the library. He had assumed that it was only for children and that you had to pay to visit. He asked if we had books for adults, and what time he could come to visit.
He came on Community Day and spent hours looking through the shelves. When asked what his favorite genre was, he replied, “I love a good thriller." Fortunately, we were able to oblige, and he found a book that piqued his interest!
Though spending hours at the library is something we see more among our younger visitors, we are happy to see more and more adults who feel so glad to spend time here and feel loved.
