Greyson, Loveness, and Natasha are new students at Grace Christian Community School. They have their own unique stories of where they come from and the challenges they have faced in life. But one thing they share in common - this year, they have learned how to read!
Their teacher, Ms. Tryness, says that others thought it was impossible. Greyson just moved to the big city from a small village where a different language was spoken. So it was difficult to communicate with him. Loveness had no interest in learning to read when she joined the school. And Natasha missed class so frequently that she was always behind her classmates.
But Ms. Tryness did not give up on them! Because of our literacy training program, Ms. Tryness is equipped to teach all students to read - a skill that many community school teachers do not have. Greyson, Loveness, and Natasha joined her daily remedial reading classes and began learning from scratch - letter sounds, then blending short words, and finally forming sentences. Ms. Tryness says, "I'm so happy with the progress they have made! Loveness is now teaching her classmates who need help!"
Along with reading lessons, Greyson, Loveness, and Natasha have the privilege of visiting our Impact One Library for special reading activities and to borrow books to keep practicing at home. For these 3rd grade students, the door to learning has finally opened. Equipped with the skill of reading, they are ready for so much more!
